The Unicorn Project
The Unicorn Project is a novel the parallels many of the challenges I face in my day-to-day work life as a leader of a development and devOps team. So while I wasn’t exactly able to escape or unplug while reading it, the novel illustrated what is at stake for companies undergoing digital transformation and how I can better utilize my background as a developer and systems architect to help bridge the gap between technology and business objectives. There were countless parallels between the Unicorn Project and our cloud-native transformation for internal projects I led over the past two years known as the Cadence project. Both seek to:
- Focus on infrastructure and platforms that enable developers to be productive
- Limit work in progress, creating flow, happiness
- Provide fast and frequent feedback, thereby increasing agility.
- Address technical debt. as “Agility is never free. Over time, without investment in paying down tech debt, software becomes more and more difficult to change.”
