Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time
Scrum is a framework that helps teams deliver value using adaptation and inspection to address complexity in projects. Jeff Sutherland is a co-creator of Scrum and one of the original signers of the Agile Manifesto. His book, co-written with his son, JJ Sutherland is meant to introduce readers to the broad concepts of the framework. The book also offers diverse anecdotes that illustrate some of the Scrum principles and help show how it can be used for endeavors outside of software development. I’ve been leading teams that utilize Scrum for several years and I re-read both Scrum and their follow up, The Scrum Fieldbook every once and a while to refresh on the fundamentals so I can be a better advocate for Scrum practices within my organization and coach team members and leaders within my team.
Formalizing our Scrum practice has enabled us to work more closely with our internal customers to deliver value faster by focusing on transparency, inspection and adaption. This has ultimately helped us adapt our systems to changing business needs while also enabling our development team(s) to constantly improve and do what they are best at: delivering great software.
