Mindfulness for Beginners

--

As Buddha said, don’t clean to “I, me, mine”.

I’m trying to make a habit of meditating at least a few minutes every day. This book is a quick primer on developing the right mindset for your meditation practice. I was taken aback by how common the thoughts going through my head when I try to be mindful really are. I thought I was doing something wrong when my mind would go through internal narration or when it would race from thought to thought. This is common when getting started. Kabat-Zinn’s book provides perspective on this phenomenon (and how it relates to our busy, modern lives) and techniques for centering oneself to develop awareness, which he argues is the most important aspect of mindfulness.
