Alright, alright, alright

Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights is part memoir, part philosophical manifesto. I found myself reading it in his voice, which, somehow made the poems, proverbs and sidebars make more sense. McConaughey relates stories of his upbringing, how he became a Hollywood star, his various pilgrimages and how he eventually stopped taking romcom roles to become a dramatic actor who won an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. But the book is about more than his career. It’s about finding what you value and acting on it. Sometimes to do that, you have to listen to the little things and take meaning, even if it is contrived, in order to recharge, find what is important to you feed your soulwhether it is hitting the road in an Airstream, playing bongos naked at 2:30 a.m. or simply sitting back and appreciating the beauty in the everyday, seizing the greenlights that you might otherwise miss. Alright, alright, alright.
